Rock Salt
Due to the fact that it is extracted from salt range mountains, rock salt is entirely natural. On the other hand, the look of rock salt is pinkish, and it is not very fine; instead, it is typically in the form of crystals. The mineral form of sodium chloride, commonly known as halite, is a common name for this substance. Rock salt does not undergo any process.
Rock Salt Vs Table Salt
Sodium chloride is an essential component of salt and may be found in both table salt and rock salt. Both rock salt and table salt are salts because they are mainly sodium chloride. Rock salt and table salt have the same flavor because they are made of the same chemical; nevertheless, there are several variances beyond that.
- Texture: The most common form of salt used in cooking and baking is a fine powder. When compared to table salt, rock salt is more coarse in nature due to its crystal shape. The crystal shape of the rock salt is due to the fact that it is unrefined. The larger the salt crystals, the more you’ll need to make your dish taste delicious.
- Processing:
The vast majority of mined table salt originates from subterranean deposits. It undergoes
processing in order to strip it of any additional minerals. It is not a natural or organic salt. Rock salt, on the other hand, does not undergo this process, due to that, it is able to keep its trace mineral content.

The sodium content of table salt and rock salt are the same and both comprise forty percent of
their weight in sodium by weight. - Trace minerals:
Because calcium, potassium, and other minerals are lost during the refining process, rock salt contains more minerals than table salt. However, table salt has more iodine than rock salt, which helps prevent goiter, a disease caused by a lack of iodine. - Color:
The color of refined table salt is purely white or off-white while on the other hand rock salt
usually retains the flavors, smells, and even the colors from where this salt was harvested which is why sometimes, rock salt granules have a greyish hue and are not entirely white or clear in color
